Why you need a mobile-friendly website

What is a mobile-friendly website?

You may have heard people saying that your website needs to be mobile-friendly or have a responsive design?

You may also not have a clear understanding of what that means and why it’s important for your business website.

Mobile-friendly websites look good whether you’re viewing it on your desktop, your laptop, your tablet/ipad or smartphone.

The website detects what device it is being accessed from and it adapts to the appropriate screen size. The font size will be readable, the buttons will be big enough to accurately click on. The images will also scale to fit the screen.

Why is it important to have a mobile-friendly website?

With a mobile-friendly website, your website visitors won’t have to pinch, zoom and scroll to read the content on your site. If a visitor is using a mobile device to do a search, and gets to an older desktop version of a website, it can quickly get frustrating to access information. The visitor may very well abandon your site for a mobile-friendly site where the content is readable and easily accessible.

On the 21st of April 2015, Google updated their search formula which now favours mobile-friendly websites. Google has stated that there are a number of factors that still influence website rankings in search results. One being, if the non-mobile-friendly website has higher quality content than a mobile-friendly version, the former site may still rank higher.

More and more people are searching the internet and browsing websites from their mobile devices. Upgrading your website to be mobile-friendly is critical to the continued growth of your business.
