6 Reasons Why You Shouldn’t DIY Your Logo

By April 25, 2022No Comments3 min read

1.

Expertise – You don’t have the skillset to do it yourself.

If you are looking to create a logo for your business and it is not a graphic design business then do not attempt to DIY your logo. Graphic designers are experts at creating and crafting brand identities. You pay them for their skill, expertise and experience. Which you will not get on Canva, or in any other DIY way. There are a few graphic design “rules” that have been established to aid in the success of your logo and those are often only discovered through years of experience.

2.

Quality – DIY logo design sites do not prepare the logo files for the various applications where it will be used.

The quality of your logo will be compromised if you attempt to DIY your logo. Creating a unique logo is a challenging task. Graphic designers are professionals who have the knowledge and a honed skillset to create a unique logo for your business. They use the top of the line software to create your design and they understand color, typography, and layout. Depending on your business, your logo will have various applications and will require someone with the know-how on how to create something for your specific needs and applications. A logo is not one-size fits all. Your logo design is important for your business so you want it done right

3.

Time – You don’t have the time to learn all that is needed to create a high quality logo design.

If you’re starting a new business or rebranding your business, you surely don’t have the time to figure out how to create a logo. So why not save that time and stress and hire a professional graphic designer who can create you something great? Often, people spend a lot of time fussing with tools and websites they don’t understand to create a not so great logo themselves, only to waste their time and hire a graphic designer anyway.

4.

Effectiveness – DIY logo design sites offer generic designs and do not take into account what your business has to offer.

The effectiveness of communicating what your business is about, through your logo, depends on multiple factors, ranging from legibility to the visual language used. These are things graphic designers know how to craft and consider at every step of the design process. The process of crafting an identity by a professional graphic designer is to present a visual language that reinforces the business’s purpose and values.

5.

Uniqueness – You’ll end up with a generic logo that looks like hundreds of other business logos.

Every business aims to be unique and offer something special to the market it’s entering, which is why it needs a logo that matches. When you DIY or use a template off of sites like Canva, you will not get something that’s unique, but rather a logo that is used by many other businesses in a similar field or industry. Investing in hiring a professional graphic designer offers you the opportunity to create a high quality logo that communicates the unique and special aspects of your business. If you’re not sure about the type of logo that you want, an experienced graphic designer will offer suggestions and provide the design that is right for your business.

6.

Trademark – You cannot trademark your logo if you made it on free design sites like Canva.

Canva and other similar DIY design sites, have their own set of copyrights and licensing agreements that do not allow you to fully own the logo you created on their site. “Canva’s logo templates are customizable and can be used by anyone. This means that your rights to the logo are non-exclusive and you can’t register it as a trademark.”
